The Last of Us 

 

The Last Of Us is a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. This series is based on the video game franchise. Due to this pre-existing franchise, The Last Of Us gained popularity as soon as it was released as fans of the video game were eager to watch. Having a pre-sold audience aided The Last Of Us to thrive. Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel, was hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantined zone. The series follows a mass pandemic 20 years in and shows the major effects on society due to this contagious infection. As it is based on a video game the structure of the episodes follows the story in the video games, making the episodes exciting and thrilling for an audience as there are plot twists and tasks to be dealt with throughout. The primary target audience for this series was fans of the video game around the ages of 16-24.  

 

Money Heist 

 

Money Heist tells the story of a group of robbers attempting the most thought out and well executed robbery in Spanish history. Money Heist’s popularity was partially due to it’s use of cultural representation. South America and the Mediterranean countries were the main viewers of the series. Money Heist filmed in many countries creating a global audience in countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal. Money Heist maintained popularity as it resonated with countries that are anti-fascist and against the regime. For example, the use of the song ‘Bella Ciao’ many times throughout the series represented resistance and rebellion, themes which many viewers agreed with due to their personal heritage or country’s history. Money Heist’s primary target audience is both genders and ages around 18–30-year-olds. However, the secondary target audience for this series is protestors and those who are anti-regime. The use of crime and anti-government songs provoked conversations and led to Money Heist becoming popular.  

 

Fool Me Once 

 

Fool Me Once follows the murder of Joe Burkett and his wife, Maya Stern, who is trying to piece together the mystery of his death. This series is based on the Harlen Coben novel. Maya being ex-military creates an action-packed crime thriller series. Michelle Keegan starred as Maya Stern and Richard Armitage starred as Joe Burkett. The primary target audience for this series is fans of the Harlen Coben Franchise and young adults of ages around 1830-year-olds. However, a secondary target audience could be Michelle Keegan fans due to her popularity. The main reason for the popularity of this thriller series is due to the pre-existing fan base that Harlen Coben has and the storyline which is complex and fast paced. Moreover, this engages viewers and eradicates the likeliness to become bored.
